Gold Rounds?
I am a newbie to Pm's. Why are there no gold rounds?
Is there a market for them? |
Re: Gold Rounds?
There are. Defining a "round" as a coin shaped bullion coin issued by a non-governmental mint and with no face value.
Engelhard has issued gold Prospectors, and there are any number of bar shaped offerings by Credit Suisse and others. I'm sure there are other examples. I think that with the cost, people want a large recognizable organization behind the gold that they buy. The Franklin Mints of the world can skate on assays of 999 silver rounds but things are a bit more serious when the stakes get raised by 60-80 times as much. |
Re: Gold Rounds?
WAY too much financial incentive to counterfeit "gold rounds". Stick with recognizable "officially minted" coins like Krugerrands, Gold Eagles, Maple Leafs, Pesos, Philharmonics, Brittanias, etc. This will help insure much better liquidity, and a better return on premium spreads when you are ready to sell.
Don't try to "fix" what ain't broke ! |

Don't try to "fix" what ain't broke ! LOL Good point!" Ditto, ditto, ditto. Government struck coins with stamped guaranteed content and purity are IMO far more desirable then any non-government minted bullion....with or without an assay card. It's not as important with silver because of silver's comparatively low price. But gold....go government minted coins. |
